PROGRAMS

This is a series for those who love the land. We will travel each week with some of America's most renowned plein air painters as they capture time and place in color and light, revealing the secrets that underlie our emotional response to the beauty that surrounds us. Although the American school of plein air painting has strong ties to California and the American west, plein air painters reside and travel throughout the country, providing the series a variety of settings and subject matter. The first six episodes of this series will visit the American landscape from Cape Cod to Taos. Future episodes will include other locations such Denali Park in Alaska.

During each episode, artists will share philosophical outlooks and views on art in America as they create their art. We will also visit noted museum collections of this unique art movement and talk with knowledgeable individuals with diverse perspectives on the subject of American landscape art and American Impressionism.

Although oil paints are the primary medium of plein air painters, watercolor and acrylic painting demonstrations are also scheduled. It is interesting to note that most plein air painters eschew fads, use a limited palette and employ traditional techniques and materials.

For information about the artists who will be featured in each episode, please see About the Artists.
