CAPE COD

In episode one, Connecticut painter, author and educator, Charles Sovek takes viewers to the artists’colony of Provincetown. Viewers will explore the rich legacy of Charles Hawthorne, founder of the Cape Cod School, and discover why artists from Hans Hoffman to Jackson Pollack came to the Cape. We will also experience art in the making as Sovek paints on location one of the many landmarks that inspired artists of previous generations and discusses his life as an artist.

Painting the Greatland: ALASKA

In this three-part series, we join nationally acclaimed artists, Jean LaGassic, Kenn Backhaus and Matt Smith, as they journey north to paint the "last great place," Alaska.

Join the sessions as the three paint the grandeur of the Alaska Range and Mt. McKinley; the fishing village of Seward on beautiful Resurrection Bay, and the Kenai Peninsula; and Southeast Alaska's Tongass Rainforest with its historic and rustic small towns and fishing ports, and Douglas Island near Juenau. The journey, spectacular locations, art in the making and around-the-campfire discussions are sure to provide lively and thoughtful entertainment.

MIDWEST / TRINIDAD ODYSSEY

We accompany Frank LaLumia, master watercolorist and author of Plein Air Painting in Watercolor and Oils, as he paints in his hometown of Trinidad, CO. Frank also visits the Upper Michigan environs to capture the early spring light and mood of the hardwood forests.

Insightful and entertaining, Frank discusses the trials and tribulations of life as an artist in a technological society.

In this episode we also look at the unique and important role of regionalism in American Impressionism and the plein air movement. In addition, this episode discovers the ties the modern day Impressionists share with their famous predecessors of a hundred years ago as we visit The Irvine Museum for a look at the lives and paintings of the early California Impressionists.

TAOS

Artist Ron Rencher paints autumn aspens in the Taos high country. This show features the E.I. Couse House, home and studio of one of the founders of the "Taos Society of Artists," a group of painters from the East that came to New Mexico in the early 1900s, establishing Taos as an artist colony that is still in existence today. This pilot episode was filmed on location in the Sangre de Christo Mountains outside of Taos.
