A view from Archangel Valley, Talkeetna Mountains, Alaska. From Palmer, take the Fishhook Road to Hatcher Pass Road. A half mile past the switchback at the Mother Lode Mine (now a nice restaurant / bar), watch for “Archangel Valley Road” sign. Turn right on to 4 x 4 extremely rough road. It’s a mile or two up. Keep left. A four wheel drive with good clearance is a must.

This scene is about 20 miles north of Anchorage just off the freeway and about 15 minutes from my studio. Go north on the Glenn Highway, exit right to the Old Glenn, the original road to Palmer. Park before bridge crosses railroad

This meadow is located at the top of Bridger Pass. Pull in to the Battle Ridge Campground north of Bozeman, and take the first left up to the ridge. My rental car made it in fine.

Chugach Autumn from Fire Creek

North of Eagle River Fire Creek empties into Knik Arm near Beach Lake. Park at the Lake and circle left around to shore opposite. Follow sled dog trail (sign posted) to Knik Arm. It is a couple miles in. Allow 45 minutes each way. Bears in area. The mud flats of Knik Arm are extremely dangerous with silt and fast moving tides.

A 25 year Alaska resident, Greg has explored and painted many of the accessible and not so accessible areas in Southcentral Alaska.
